“It’s Survivor night,” Myrtle announces. Instead of his usual groan, Herman retaliates. “Aren’t you forgetting today’s decluttering challenge? Gathering old remotes?” Myrtle grins and gives Herman a lumpy bag. “Gotcha! Tonight’s a two-hour special. There are twenty-four remotes, enough to keep you busy for a couple hours removing corroded batteries.”

Since Herman’s manner of dressing is inspired by his mother’s English heritage, he owns no jeans. Myrtle will be the one decluttering her jeans wardrobe. She begins eliminating the tight eights. She’ll never get into those again. There’s an uncomfortable muffin top hanging over the tens. Better keep one twelve.
